Buy local vs import · Indonesia
Importing to the Indonesia: is it actually cheaper?
7 products run through the real landed cost — US price + forwarding + 11% import VAT above the Rp 54.150 de-minimis + card FX — versus local retail, factoring whether the warranty survives. Right now buying local wins on all of them — that flips as prices move.

How importing to the Indonesia works
- Import VAT
- 11% on the US price + shipping (CIF), above a Rp 54.150 de-minimis threshold.
- Duty
- 8% — De-minimis is only ~US$3 FOB (PMK 96/2023 as amended by PMK 4/2025) and waives duty only — 11% PPN applies from the first rupiah, so both effectively always apply to real electronics. A simplified flat 7.5% duty covers phones/laptops/cameras/audio for FOB US$3–1,500. Imported phones must have their IMEI registered with customs or lose service.
- Forwarding
- MyUS, from the US — about 5-10 days.
- FX
- Rp17892/USD mid-market + 3% card spread, as of 2026-10-09.
Every verdict is computed only from these figures — it's never for sale, and we're not a shipping company, so we don't earn more when you import.
