• Best portable speakers — 1.16 cons per pro (22 flagged vs 19 praised across 6 tested products).
• Best soundbars — 1.15 cons per pro (15 flagged vs 13 praised across 7 tested products).

Method & data

For every reviewed product we take the praised and flagged consensus points drawn from independent, whitelisted hands-on reviews — each point a sourced, dated observation, never a marketing claim — and sum them per category. The flags-per-praise ratio is cons divided by pros. Categories are included only with ≥4 reviewed products so the ratio isn't a small-sample fluke: 169 qualify. Every underlying point links to its source on the product page. Current as of 2026-08-08.

Honest caveat: this is a descriptive count of what testers wrote, not a quality verdict. A complex, feature-dense category naturally invites more critique, and a great product can still carry several noted trade-offs. Read it as a map of where tested reality tempers the marketing — not a list of "bad" categories.
