How much independent testing backs each product
Every verdict here rests on independent, hands-on testing — never our own lab, never a paid one. For each product we count how much of that evidence actually exists: how many independent labs measured it, and how many things they measured. 627 products across the 111 categories mapped below carry at least one independent measured result on record — this page counts only categories with enough reviewed products for a stable map; the corpus-wide census (every category, every product) is The Testing Gap.
A coverage record, not a rating.
How we count
- Independent labs
- Outlets that physically tested the product and published at least one measured value (a battery time, a brightness reading, a decibel figure). An outlet that only gave an opinion is not counted here.
- Physical metrics
- The distinct kinds of thing those labs measured — battery, brightness, thermal, noise, and so on — deduplicated, so differently-worded measurements of the same thing count once.
- Outlets on record
- Every independent outlet that reviewed it, measured or not, split into those that tested it and those that only mentioned it.
It is a count of evidence, not a score. A high count means a product is well-documented, not that it is good; a zero means little independent evidence has been gathered yet, not that the product is bad. Every figure traces to a dated, linked source in our reviewers-we-cite ledger.
