Importing to the Japan: is it actually cheaper?
We haven't priced individual products for Japan yet — but the checker works on any Japan product link right now: paste one and we read its price, match our US price of record, and do the landed-cost math below. Here's how importing to Japan works.
How importing to the Japan works
- Import VAT
- 10% on the US price + shipping (CIF), above a ¥10,000 de-minimis threshold.
- Duty
- 0% — Consumer electronics (smartphones, laptops, cameras, headphones) enter at 0% import duty under Japan's WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA) commitments; Japan's average MFN manufactured-goods tariff is ~4.3%, but IT hardware is duty-free. Only consumption tax (10%) applies above the de-minimis. Note: electricals may require PSE certification and wireless devices TELEC approval for release, though personal single-unit imports are typically waved through.
- Forwarding
- Shipito, from the US — about 6-14 days.
- FX
- ¥158/USD mid-market + 3% card spread, as of 2026-10-09.
Every verdict is computed only from these figures — it's never for sale, and we're not a shipping company, so we don't earn more when you import.
