What reviewers say about the Steinberg UR22C

Only one whitelisted tester, Engadget, has genuine hands-on with the exact UR22C, and it is a qualitative first-person buyer's column ('IRL') rather than a lab test, so no measured figures exist. The reviewer found it worked flawlessly out of the box and praised the understated metal build, but flagged the unintuitive controls compared to his previous interface.

Tested by Engadget

Consistently praised

  • Worked flawlessly out of the box; no Logic Pro latency tweaks needed even recording two tracks at once
  • Impressive, understated black-and-gray metal enclosure
  • Oversized output volume knob is easy to adjust between loud and quiet presets

Commonly flagged

  • Controls are the weak point; only a detented 12 o'clock mix-knob setting, no microswitched gain knobs
  • Buyer second-guessed the choice versus the more widely used Focusrite Scarlett 4i4

Where reviewers disagree No cross-source disagreement is possible: only a single whitelisted hands-on account (Engadget) survives verification, and it is a first-person purchase impression, not a measured lab review.

Engadget hands-on ·

The UR22C worked perfectly fine out of the box.
In terms of build quality, the UR22C is impressive, but not quite up to snuff with my previous interface, the Presonus FireStudio Mobile.
Where the unit falls short, in my opinion, is its controls.

Fetched the official Steinberg UR22C product page as source; it is a JS-rendered SPA (returns only nav/footer text via a clean fetch) but its canonical URL and page title ("UR22C: The Perfect Portable Interface | Steinberg") confirm this exact model. The dated MusicRadar review (corroboration, published 23 July 2021) confirms the UR22C as the entry-level 2-in/2-out UR-C interface: two combination XLR/1/4" D-PRE mic/line inputs, two balanced 1/4" outputs, MIDI In and Out, USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 1) and 32-bit/192 kHz, and lists the price as $189. A separate Vintage King fetch (MFR# UR22C, "Product No Longer Available") independently corroborated 2 inputs / 2 outputs, 32-bit/192 kHz, XLR combo inputs, 1/4" TRS outputs and MIDI In/Out. Release year is not stated verbatim on the cited pages, so release_year and releaseDate are left null.
