What reviewers say about the Connoisseur 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Brewer

Only one whitelisted tester's full review text was retrievable for this exact model: Wirecutter's lab test (via Engadget). It named the BV1901TS the best-tasting brewer of eight tested, praising stable ~200 F brewing and a compact build, but faulted its non-programmable, non-brew-through carafe. Serious Eats (paywalled) tested the older BV1900TS; Gear Patrol was blocked.

Based on 1 review · 1 lab-tested · 2018-06-17

Tested by Engadget

Consistently praised

  • Best-tasting coffee of the eight machines tested, with more sweetness and depth than the OXO
  • Stable, accurate brew-bed temperature (measured 200.4 F), aiding even extraction
  • Compact 12-inch footprint fits under cabinets, plus dead-simple one-touch operation
  • Fast brew: a six-cup pot in about 4.5 minutes

Commonly flagged

  • Clunky thermal carafe with no brew-through lid, must screw the lid on to pour or it dribbles
  • Not programmable, only an on/off rocker switch, so no scheduled morning brew
  • Weaker heat retention than the OXO (cooled to 172 F vs 180 F after an hour)
  • Pre-infusion mode is non-automatic and unintuitive to activate (hold power 5 sec)

Where reviewers disagree Only one whitelisted hands-on source survived retrieval, so cross-outlet agreement cannot be assessed. Notably, Wirecutter itself ranked the BV1901TS runner-up behind the OXO On 9-Cup despite judging its coffee better-tasting, trading pure flavor for the OXO's programmability and superior carafe.

Brew-bed temperature, 2 min into brew: 200.4 °F · Extraction, best pot (VST refractometer): 19.44% · Brew time, six-cup pot: 4 min 30 sec · Carafe heat retention over 1 hour: 185 °F to 172 °F · Height: 12 in

The Bonavita BV1901TS Connoisseur brewed the best-tasting coffee of any machine we tried, with minimal (read: zero) bells and whistles and an uber-simple interface.
The compact, straightforward Connoisseur maintains a stable brew temperature that produces a consistent, balanced, and easily reproducible pot of coffee.
Of all the thermal carafe brewers we tested, the Bonavitas were the only ones that didn't offer a brew-through lid, which allows you to sneak a cup while brewing is still going on, like the OXO.
