What reviewers say about the Keychron K8 Pro QMK/VIA Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

Only one whitelisted tester, Tom's Hardware, published a hands-on review of this exact model. Its verdict is lukewarm: it credits long battery life, QMK/VIA support, affordability, a hot-swappable durable body, and screw-in stabilizers that rattle less, but pans the keycaps, the stiff tray-mount design that makes the sound-dampening foam largely moot, and buggy Bluetooth on its review unit.

Based on 1 review · 1 lab-tested · 2022-03-15

Tested by Tom's Hardware

Consistently praised

  • Long battery life
  • QMK/VIA customization support
  • PCB screw-in stabilizers rattle much less than plate-mount ones
  • Affordable, hot-swappable, durable body

Commonly flagged

  • Terrible keycaps that feel slick/ABS-like with inconsistent legends
  • Bluetooth issues (backspace-repeat bug persisted even after a firmware fix)
  • Stiff tray-mount design leaves sound-dampening foam largely moot
  • No per-key RGB in software and awkward left-side USB-C placement

Where reviewers disagree Only one whitelisted source survived, so no cross-tester comparison is possible. Tom's Hardware noted its Bluetooth failures occurred on a prototype unit and even a Keychron firmware flash didn't fix them, so retail units may behave differently; multiple commenters on the review pushed back that the verdict was too harsh.

Tom's Hardware lab-tested ·

The Keychron K8 Pro doesn't feel like a substantial upgrade to the regular K8, with terrible keycaps, poor Bluetooth performance, and a lackluster tray-mount style that makes some of the upgrades here, like sound-dampening foam, moot.
The included stabilizers are PCB screw-in, which rattle much less than the usual plate-mount ones.
The Bluetooth performance is surprisingly bad, the keycaps should immediately be thrown in the garbage and the awkward USB Type-C connector clashes with the otherwise stylish look of this board.
