What reviewers say about the GMKtec NucBox K8

Only one whitelisted tester, TechRadar, hands-on reviewed the exact base NucBox K8 (Ryzen 7 8845HS). TechRadar calls it the fastest AMD-powered NUC it had tested, praising CPU power, dual M.2 Gen4 slots and dual 2.5GbE LAN at a competitive price, while flagging the all-plastic silver build, awkward internal access and lack of Thunderbolt with only one of the CPU's two USB 4.0 ports exposed.

Tested by TechRadar

Consistently praised

  • Fastest AMD-powered NUC TechRadar had tested; CPU performance beats its Intel Core Ultra 5 comparison
  • Strong connectivity: dual M.2 PCIe Gen4 slots plus dual 2.5GbE LAN
  • Competitive price for the performance and features on offer

Commonly flagged

  • All-plastic chassis with silver paint that doesn't feel like metal
  • Awkward internal access to reach RAM and M.2 slots
  • No Thunderbolt and only one of the CPU's two USB 4.0 ports exposed

Where reviewers disagree Single whitelisted source, so no cross-source disagreement; TechRadar's own reservation is that the silver plastic build is the one thing keeping it from a wholehearted endorsement.

this is the fastest AMD-powered NUC we've seen, and the only machine that was consistently faster than this was the Minisforum MS-01, which used the Intel i9 13900H.
The silver paint GMKtec used won't convince anyone it's metal when they touch it.
the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS has two USB 4.0 ports, so why wasn't one put on the back?
