What reviewers say about the Vornado VH200
Two whitelisted hands-on testers, Wirecutter (NYT) and Tom's Guide, both rate the Vornado VH200 highly for even whole-room heating, cool-to-touch surfaces, and class-leading quietness near 45 dB on high. Both flag that it doesn't oscillate and lacks a remote. They diverge on heating power and on the controls.

- Exceptionally even heat distribution across the room · 2 sources
- Very quiet on high (~45 dB); quieter than most rivals · 2 sources
- Exterior and grille stay relatively cool and safe to touch · 2 sources
- Simple, compact, lightweight design; generous 5-year warranty · 2 sources
Commonly flagged
- No oscillation and heat cannot be aimed directionally · 2 sources
- No remote control (and no timer) · 2 sources
- Non-intuitive medium-low-high control ordering can confuse at first
Where reviewers disagree Tom's Guide measured only a ~6°F rise (10x15 ft room) and judged the VH200 underpowered for larger or very cold rooms, recommending the stronger Lasko FH500 (+10°F); Wirecutter measured a ~20°F rise over two hours and rates it best for most rooms. The gap partly reflects different test protocols (room size and run time). The two also split on controls: Wirecutter calls them simple and straightforward, whereas Tom's Guide finds the medium-low-high ordering unintuitive.

room temp rise, high setting, 2 hours: ~20°F · cross-room temp difference (sensor 3 ft vs 6 ft): ~6°F · noise, highest setting (3 ft / 6 ft): 45 dBA / 44 dBA · exterior plastic shell temp: ~95°F · heat source behind grille temp: under 140°F
In our tests, the VH200 raised the temperature by nearly 20 degrees in just two hours.
At the heater’s highest setting, we recorded a decibel level of 45 dBA at a distance of 3 feet and 44 dBA at 6 feet, making the VH200 quieter than most of the other radiant or ceramic heaters we tested.
The VH200 doesn’t come with a remote control or a timer feature.
room temp rise (10 x 15 ft room, high setting): ~6°F · noise, highest setting: 45.5 dB · surface temp after 30 min on high: 75-76°F · energy use (average): 0.26 kWh
In our tests, the no-frills Vornado VH200 heated evenly without getting hot itself or making a racket in the process.
It was the quietest space heater we tested and won't interfere with conversation or a television show.
Although it's simple to operate, the fact that the heat settings go from medium, to low, to high is unintuitive and can be a little confusing at first.
