What reviewers say about the Cuisinart 2-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster CPT-122

Only one whitelisted hands-on tester—NYT Wirecutter—reviewed this exact model, and it names the CPT-122 its overall top pick, praising unusually even browning and fast toasting (1 minute 20 seconds on medium) for a budget toaster. Flaws: occasional pale edges versus the pricier Breville, a crumb tray narrower than the toaster floor, and typical modern-toaster longevity doubts (may not last more than ~5 years). TechGearLab was excluded (site down); Consumer Reports isn't whitelisted.

Tested by Wirecutter

Consistently praised

  • Browns bread more evenly than almost any other model tested; overall top pick for the money
  • Toasts fast — fully done on medium in 1 minute 20 seconds
  • Better built than most cheap toasters; sturdy controls, stays cool to the touch, generous 3-year warranty
  • Compact footprint with wide, deep slots that easily fit puffy bagels

Commonly flagged

  • Not quite as even as the pricier Breville — occasional pale borders/edges
  • Crumb tray is narrower than the toaster floor, so removing it doesn't give full access to the mess at the bottom
  • Plastic levers and printed labels are less durable; prone to quality-control issues and may not last more than ~5 years
  • Bagel setting only adds time without lowering outer heat, so it lags the Breville's side-specific bagel mode

Where reviewers disagree Single whitelisted source, so there is no cross-source disagreement to report. All three quotes and the toast-time measurement were verified as literal matches in the fetched text (47,911 chars). TechGearLab (whitelisted) was excluded because its site was down. Consumer Reports rated the CPT-122 well but is not on the whitelist.

Toast time, medium setting (white bread): 1 minute 20 seconds

This inexpensive, ordinary-looking toaster browned bread more evenly than almost any other model we tested.
The medium setting on both Cuisinarts popped out a fully done piece of toast after 1 minute 20 seconds, which was quite fast compared with other models we’ve tested.
The Cuisinart doesn’t toast quite as evenly as the Breville. Occasionally it turns out toast with pale borders, but overall we think it performs well for its low price.
