Tested by Wirecutter

Consistently praised

  • Stellar large-room particle/smoke reduction (>99.9% in the 30-minute test)
  • Very quiet for its power (<=41 dBA on its four lower speeds)
  • Energy efficient (41 W max; 11-18 W in normal everyday use)
  • Liveable extras: useful app/display readouts, full display shutoff, attractive washable fabric cover

Commonly flagged

  • Fabric cover looks shaggy over time and lost elasticity after a few washes, needing replacement
  • Shorter filter replacement cycle (6-9 months vs a typical year)
  • Relatively high price and overkill for small-to-medium rooms

Smoke particle reduction, 30-min test (high & medium-high): >99.9% · Power draw, highest setting: 41 W · Power draw, medium-high / medium-low: 18 W / 11 W · Noise, four lower speeds: <=41 dBA · Noise, high setting: just above 50 dBA · Dimensions: 21.5 in tall x 14 in wide

dropping the smoke levels in our test space by more than 99.9% on its high and medium-high settings
It’s remarkably quiet, particularly for a machine of its capability. On the high setting, it barely broke our 50-decibel limit for comfortable conversation, sleep, or TV watching. On its four lower speeds, it measured a barely noticeable 41 decibels or less.
The fabric cover takes on a shaggy look over time as hair and dust bunnies accumulate on its surface, and in our long-term testing it lost its elasticity after a few wash cycles, necessitating replacement.
