Where it distinguishes itself from the pack are the incentives that Colgate provides for you to brush your teeth, and in a way, it's a brilliant idea.
The overall brushing performance is average I'd say. The vibration isn't as powerful as I'd like, but it still managed to do an okay job of superficially cleaning.
Strangely enough, I was able to fool the Hum by Colgate by pretending to brush my teeth.

Given Colgate’s popularity in the world of dental care, the performance of the Hum electric toothbrush was disappointing. During our plaque reveal dye test, the Hum failed to remove the red stain from the leftover plaque.
While the Hum’s charger felt sturdy, the rest of the toothbrush’s components were poorly made.
Further, the power button lights up while the Hum is being used, but not while the toothbrush is being charged. This makes it impossible to know whether the Hum is successfully charging, or when charging is complete.

After trying it out for a few days, I think the hum makes for a pretty good entry-level gateway to smart toothbrushes, especially for the price.
The brush itself is well-designed, lightweight and comes in three colors (blue, green and purple).
But there doesn't seem to be a pressure sensor to let me know if I'm pushing too hard on my gums. This is a feature on my current Oral-B Pro 1000 that I find fairly useful, and am disappointed to find it missing here.
