The Instax mini 99 shines in both form and function.
The dials for exposure compensation and color effects both turn with an extremely satisfying click, but unfortunately it's also very easy to move them from set positions when the camera isn't in use.
Photos shot in faded green mode were too green for my taste.
It's solid but not too heavy, and it feels well made and balanced in the hand.
It's pretty clever, and very cool.
Annoyingly, though, the battery can't be charged through the camera, and you'll need to remember to take the small charger and USB-C cable with you.
While there are no hybrid digital camera features, it delivers far more versatility than pretty much any other instant camera.
When you get to handle it though, you might be a little disappointed by the plasticky build.
when I was indoors or areas with less light in general, I leaned heavily on the flash, which muddied a lot of the photos.
