It just happens not to be the best at everything, and it feels more like an optimized, faster, last-generation solution.

It is faster than any other SSD we ever tested and delivers excellent performance in virtually all workloads.
Once the SLC cache is exhausted, transfer rates drop quite a lot, to 1.3 GB/s, which is much lower than what I would have expected considering the 9100 Pro's positioning.
This makes it the most expensive Gen 5 drive on the market.
