Where reviewers disagree Cooling is genuinely contested. Reviewed's 2023 instrumented lab test called it 'some of the best cooling performance we have ever seen,' while Tom's Guide (2025) still 'woke up sweating some mornings' and Real Homes advises hot sleepers to skip the Original in favor of the pricier Mint.

we found the Tuft and Needle mattress to provide ample comfort whether we were on our back, front, or side.
One area where this mattress fell short for me is its heat-wicking. Despite sleeping on cotton sheets, foregoing a mattress pad, and running central air, I still woke up sweating some mornings.
The edges are soft and thin, and while you can sit or lay on them without causing immediate damage to the mattress, it's not particularly comfortable.
It seems that Tuft & Needle has built the Original with heat diffusion in mind, as the mattress offered some of the best cooling performance we have ever seen.
Thanks partially to its all-foam construction, the Tuft & Needle Original effectively dampened motion transfer across the mattress during our tests.
we did notice that we sank a fair amount while sitting on the edge of the bed.
To be completely honest, I slept horribly on the Original mattress the first night.
I think the best feature is how it virtually eliminates the vibrations made by a restless partner.
if you are a side sleeper, get super hot at night, or like to sleep or sit on the edge of the bed, you might want to forgo the Original mattress
