What reviewers say about the ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE

Two hands-on reviewers (Tom's Guide, 2025; Reviewed/USA Today, 2021) both rate the ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE among the fastest and most accurate instant-read thermometers they tested — roughly one-second reads and an auto-backlit display. Both flag its premium price; Tom's Guide additionally dislikes that settings are hidden behind the screwed-in rear battery panel, while Reviewed judges it only a marginal upgrade for existing MK4 owners.

Commonly flagged

  • Premium price vs cheaper instant-read rivals · 2 sources
  • Settings (F/C, resolution) require unscrewing the rear battery panel
  • Marginal upgrade over the older MK4 if you already own one
  • No leave-in / smart-monitoring capability

Where reviewers disagree The two differ on value: Tom's Guide (2025) recommends it outright as highly accurate and super fast, while Reviewed (2021) calls it a marginal, not-worth-it upgrade for existing MK4 owners. Neither reported a stopwatch speed figure, so the one-second claim rests on each tester's eyeball observation plus the maker's spec, not an independent timing.

ice-bath accuracy reading (spec range 31.5-32.5°F / -0.3 to 0.3°C): 0.1°C

It's also highly accurate and super fast.
I swapped my thermometer to read in Celsius during the test, which gave a final reading of 0.1°C — well within the range.
The one downside I found with the Thermopen ONE is accessing the customization buttons is difficult.

No other meat thermometer can beat the One in speed. It delivers the temperature in a literal second, which is helpful for stovetop cooking that generally requires fast actions.
The hand-held part of the thermometer is wider than the MK4, and has a curved side, which gives users a more comfortable grip.
It looks and functions just like the MK4, but is $30 more expensive.
