Where reviewers disagree The ANC verdict splits. SoundGuys measured around 30dB of cancellation below 1kHz and called the M3 'one of the best options on the market'; TechRadar agreed by ear, writing that it does not match Bose but 'Does it bear comparison to the very best alternatives out there that aren't by Bose? Most definitely.' What Hi-Fi, reviewing three months later, called the same noise cancelling merely 'decent' and said the Sony WH-1000XM6 'shave off even more in the lower frequencies.' Sound quality splits the same way: TechRadar and What Hi-Fi both hold the M3 short of five-star rivals, while SoundGuys treats the odd stock tuning as fixable with EQ. Note also that What Hi-Fi reviewed the Smart Tx bundle as the product, whereas TechRadar treated the transmitter as a paid optional extra.

Despite some foibles, the JBL Tour One M3 is a great showcase for the future of wireless ANC headphones.
Actively canceling around 30dB of outside noise under 1kHz and isolating everything above it excellently, the JBL Tour One M3 is every bit a contender for the best ANC headphones on the market as any other model.
Requires tinkering for best results
At every point the JBL are an observant and insightful listen, able to identify even the most fleeting episodes in a recording.
Turn up the volume and the sound becomes two-dimensional and rather too assertive – every part of a recording seems to rush to the front of the stage, and the top-end tonality (which is problematic all the time) becomes quite abrasive and almost glassy.

The JBL Tour One M3's comfortable wearing quality is mimicked in their sound quality: their presentation is very pleasing, full-bodied and easy to get along with.
There's a lot of plastic used in the build, and it's a cheaper-feeling material than the more seamless and higher-quality build of the Sony WH-1000XM6
It doesn't always cope very well with sudden spikes in loud sounds – we heard the full throttle of a passing motorbike – but it does the job.
