What reviewers say about the Google Pixel 9
Four whitelisted lab testers (GSMArena, Tom's Guide, Engadget, Notebookcheck) all benchmarked the exact Pixel 9. Consensus: a large battery-life and screen-brightness leap over the Pixel 8, strong cameras with an upgraded 48MP ultrawide, but Tensor G4 benchmarks trail Snapdragon/Apple silicon and wired charging stays slow at 27W with no bundled adapter.

Where reviewers disagree Battery-test numbers diverge by methodology, not verdict: Engadget's video rundown hit 27h32m (best phone it had tested), Notebookcheck measured 16h30m WiFi web surfing (and 16h17m video), and Tom's Guide got 13h18m on its cellular web-surf test. All four agree it is a large leap over the Pixel 8.

Max display brightness (manual, 75% APL): 1245 nits · Max display brightness (auto/boost, 75% APL): 2232 nits · Battery capacity: 4,700 mAh · Charge in 30 min (45W Samsung PD): 55% · Time to full charge (from 0%): 1:25h
In our testing, the Pixel 9 non-Pro was good for over 1,200nits of maximum brightness when adjusting it manually, the Adaptive toggle adding another thousand nits when the phone is under bright light. Both numbers are spectacular and easily better than what any competitor can muster at this time.
the Pixel 9 proved a worthy upgrade over the Pixel 8 in the endurance department, getting meaningfully better results in all four tests and nearly two hours more in the overall Active Use Score
The Pixel 9 is notably thin in the low end, though it does just fine with vocals and higher frequencies.
Display brightness (100% HDR): 1769 nits · Highest brightness (40% HDR, adaptive): 2390 nits · Geekbench 6 single-core: 1758 · Geekbench 6 multicore: 4594 · Wild Life Unlimited: 55.71 fps · Battery life (web surf, adaptive refresh): 13:18 (h:min) · Charge after 30 minutes: 54%
We didn't get those figures in our lab testing, but we did record a brightness of 1,769 nits at 100% HDR. The highest brightness we recorded was 2,390 nits at 40% HDR, using a flashlight with adaptive brightness switched on.
However the Pixel 9 blows that result away, with 13 hours and 18 minutes with the Smooth display adaptive refresh rate switched on.
It shouldn't surprise anyone to hear that the Pixel 9 is not a performance powerhouse, with benchmarking scores falling completely flat compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S24 and the iPhone 15.
Battery life (video rundown test): 27h 32min
But I found that it fared even better, lasting 27 hours and 32 minutes on our video rundown test. Not only is this the best we've seen from any Pixel to date, it also tops the OnePlus 12's time of 26:40 for the best longevity of any phone we've tested.
In front, the Pixel 9 sports Google's latest 6.3-inch OLED Actua display, which offers an even higher peak brightness of 2,700 nits (versus 2,000 nits for the Pixel 8).
Aside from a couple of omissions like no support for Qi2 magnetic wireless charging and Zoom Enhance, the Pixel 9 has everything you want and need from a high-end Android handset.
Max display brightness (with ambient sensor): 2063 cd/m2 · Max brightness (without ambient sensor): 1017 cd/m2 · Geekbench 6.7 single-core: 1798 points · Geekbench 6.7 multi-core: 4501 points · Battery runtime (WiFi websurfing, 150 cd/m2): 16h 30min · Battery runtime (H.264 1080p video): 16h 17min · Battery runtime (idle, min brightness): 34h 58min · Full charge time (18-30W adapters): ~3 hours
Outside, the Pixel 9 benefits from its OLED panel's high brightness and left a first-class impression. The Google phone has enough brightness in reserve to be able to deal with any lighting situation.
The Pixel 9 delivers very good runtimes for a compact smartphone.
Its 4,700 mAh battery can be charged at up to 27 watts using a cable. This already isn't terribly fast, but without the right power supply unit, its charging power is likely to be even lower during everyday use.
