What reviewers say about the Google TV Streamer 4K

All four whitelisted, hands-on reviews survived verification (PCWorld, Engadget, Tom's Guide, What Hi-Fi). The one unanimous positive is the redesigned remote with its find-my-remote chime; three also value the smart-home control panel with Matter hub and Thread router. Amazon Prime Video Thursday Night Football stream frame-rate cap (observed): 30 frames per second

The Google TV streamer is a $100 streaming box that doesn't quite justify its premium price.
the Google TV Streamer was often a few seconds faster at launching apps and less likely to stutter while loading menus.
Amazon Prime Video's Thursday Night Football streams top out at 30 frames per second on the Google TV Streamer.

Engadget hands-on ·

The Google TV Streamer is responsive and quick, packing the best streaming interface out there with smart home features that are useful and properly integrated.
Apps loaded quickly and even with the zero-attention-span manner in which I was flitting between shows, apps, live content and settings, the streamer kept up with barely perceptible lag.
It only supports Wi-Fi 5, which seems like a miss — a bump up to the Wi-Fi 6E standard would be more futureproof.

Tom's Guide hands-on ·

It's really handy to be able to glance at and control your smart home devices so easily.
it's twice as expensive as the previous generation, and more in line with premium devices from Roku, Apple, and Amazon.
I really didn't notice much of a difference between the two devices; both were pretty snappy, with the occasional lag.

What Hi-Fi hands-on ·

we can see a clear improvement over the previous Google streamer in terms of contrast.
we're slightly frustrated by how often this operating system freezes.
Dialogue sounds flat and uninteresting, with a one-note feel to voices, robbing the performances of emotion in the process.
