What reviewers say about the Sovol SV08

Only one whitelisted tester, Tom's Hardware, hands-on reviewed the exact Sovol SV08 (the larger SV08 Max is a separate model, excluded). It praises the Voron-2.4-style Core XY as fast, open-source and great value, setting a 13:25 speed-Benchy record, but flags a weak-grip PEI bed and conservative default slicer settings needing tuning.

Tested by Tom's Hardware

Consistently praised

  • Voron-2.4-style open-frame Core XY with pure Klipper firmware, fully open-source and no cloud required
  • Blazing speed, topping Tom's Hardware's fastest-3D-printer list with a 13 min 25 sec speed Benchy
  • Large 350 x 350 mm build volume and roughly one-hour assembly versus days for a scratch-built Voron; strong value under $600

Commonly flagged

  • PEI bed not sticky enough for high-speed prints; needed a glue stick
  • Conservative/lacking manufacturer default slicer settings caused over-extrusion and heavy TPU stringing, requiring tuning
  • Basic, old-fashioned text-based screen

Where reviewers disagree No cross-source disagreement possible: only one whitelisted hands-on review (Tom's Hardware) exists for this exact model. Its verdict is net-positive, with reservations confined to bed adhesion and under-tuned default profiles rather than the hardware itself.

The Sovol SVO8 is probably the best "Voron lite" printer we've seen to date.
The PEI bed wasn't sticky enough to hold several of my high speed prints, but a little glue stick helped keep things in place.
The print is otherwise solid, but the SV08 would benefit from some properly tuned TPU settings from the manufacturer.
