TechRadar lab-tested ·

Noise (Eco / Auto / Boost): 60dB / 64.5dB / 78.6dB · Runtime, Digital Motorbar on hard floor (Eco / Auto / Boost): 62 min / 45 min / 8 min · Runtime, Fluffy Optic on tiled floor (Eco / Auto / Boost): ~75 min / 65 min / 15 min · Recharge time (empty to full): 3 hours

On test I found the Gen5detect delivered outstanding suction and reliable cleaning on both hard floors and carpet, and it can tackle deep cleans alongside daily, light cleaning.
the Gen5detect really feels heavy for a cordless stick vacuum, and it's quite the workout to use it in handheld mode.
However, I found that neither of the two floorheads was especially effective at clearing dust from the edges rooms.

Tom's Guide lab-tested ·

Cat litter pickup (thick pile rug): 19.4g of 20g · Cheerios pickup: 100% (20g) · Hair pickup (hair screw tool): 100% (20g) · Noise (Eco / Boost): 66dB / 85dB · Runtime (Boost / Auto / Eco): 15 min / 42 min / 68 min

The Dyson Gen5Detect is, without a doubt, one of the best vacuum cleaners I've ever used.
I found the Gen5Detect's body to be incredibly heavy, which made long cleaning sessions a little more laborious than they already were.
The Gen5Detect is an eye-watering $949.

Reviewed lab-tested ·

Debris pickup, both brush heads (lab test): 80% to 90% · Cleaning power vs average cordless tested: ~25% more powerful · Runtime (Boost / Eco): 15 min / a little over an hour

Both picked up around 80% to 90% of the testing dirt we laid out.
The Gen5detect aced our carpet and hardwood floor cleaning tests.
Given the high price, we think it is only worth the investment if your current Dyson vacuum is on the fritz.
