What reviewers say about the Dyson V12 Detect Slim

Two whitelisted testers rate the V12 Detect Slim a strong, lightweight stick vac that excels on hard floors, with a laser that reveals hidden dust. Main gripe: its tiny 0.35L bin suits only small homes. TechRadar measured runtimes hands-on; Tom's Guide gave a months-long hands-on impression.

Commonly flagged

  • Tiny 0.35L bin only suits a one-bedroom home; fills fast
  • Less suction than the V15 Detect (11 vs 14 cyclones); not the most powerful Dyson
  • Emptying not hygienic — hair and fluff must be pulled out by hand

Where reviewers disagree The two sources conflict on emptying and clogging: TechRadar found the small bin un-hygienic and prone to hair sticking when emptied, whereas Tom's Guide found the vac 'almost immune' to clogging and emptiable 'without touching any grubby parts.'

On hard floors, though, it's an excellent cleaner, working impeccably with both of the supplied floorheads, even on the lowest suction mode.
This power button, in my opinion, is a wonderful change as it removes the issue of wrist/hand pain – press once to turn on, press again to turn off.
The V12 comes with a 0.35L bin – the same one used in the Omni-Glide. That's really very small for a cordless bin; on test I found it was just enough for a one-bedroom apartment.

Tom's Guide hands-on ·

Not only is it obviously slimmer and lighter than my Vax, it's a heck of a lot quieter, yet also — from my experience — a lot better at sucking up dust and debris than the Vax.
But my favorite part is the green laser light that illuminates any dust on the floor that I might normally miss when doing a quick round with my basic Vax.
you do have to peer quite closely at the display though.
