What reviewers say about the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

Four whitelisted testers (PCWorld, Tom's Guide, TechPowerUp, Tom's Hardware) agree the RX 9070 XT is a top-value gaming GPU that matches or beats the pricier RTX 5070 Ti and easily outruns the RTX 5070, backed by 16GB VRAM and ray tracing greatly improved over RDNA 3. All note above-MSRP retail pricing and weaker AI/creator performance; PCWorld and Tom's Guide also flag finicky FSR 4, while heavy-RT/path-tracing gaps and FSR 4 usability are where the reviewers diverge.

  • FSR 4 finicky/unreliable to enable vs DLSS 4 · 2 sources

Where reviewers disagree Sources split on the ray tracing verdict. TechPowerUp (testing the custom ASUS TUF OC) says AMD has 'pretty much caught up,' measuring the 9070 XT within 4% of the RTX 5070 Ti in RT, and found FSR 4 easy to use. Tom's Guide instead measured a large Cyberpunk RT-ultra gap (30.2 vs 55.5 FPS at 1440p) and calls RT 'still not quite there' in heavy scenes, with FSR 4 more finicky than DLSS 4.

Across our suite, the Radeon 9070 XT runs 15 percent faster than the RTX 5070 on average, and 7 percent faster than the vanilla Radeon 9070.
So major, in fact, that the Radeon RX 9070 XT punches above its weight class to challenge the $750 RTX 5070 Ti.
Much slower than RTX 5070 in AI text generation and Premiere Pro
We've had a terrible time reliably activating FSR 4 in games, needing to jump through hoops both in-game and in-driver, only for it to silently fail sometimes.

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT surprised me in the best way possible — reaching higher frame rates in some games than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti , while also being up to $150 cheaper at the same time.
you're getting around 95% of the performance of the 5070 Ti at 80% the cost.
And unfortunately, ray tracing is still not quite there on the Radeon RX 9070 XT.
if you aimed to do more with your desktop than just play, you'll be left a little shorthanded with the RX 9070 XT.

Noise at full load (default BIOS): 30 dBA · Noise at full load (quiet BIOS): 26.6 dBA · Temperature increase using quiet BIOS: +4 C · Real-life performance gain from overclocking (ASUS TUF): 10-11% · RT performance uplift vs RX 7900 GRE: +51% · Factory-OC performance uplift over base RX 9070 XT: 1% · Manual maximum power limit: 370 W

Averaged over all our games, without ray tracing or upscaling, the RX 9070 XT TUF is able to pretty much match the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.
The new GPU is considerably faster at ray tracing, which fixes one of the biggest drawbacks of RDNA 3.
out of the box the card runs at 30 dBA at full load, which is quiet, but most other RX 9070 XT cards that we've tested run a little bit quieter.
NVIDIA DLSS still offers better upscaling and frame generation

Tom's Hardware lab-tested ·

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT provides strong mainstream performance at a great price.
The RDNA 4 architecture delivers significant generational improvements in AI and ray tracing performance, without sacrificing rasterization performance.
The biggest concerns will be retail availability and pricing — and the lack of any true high-end solutions.
Still trails Nvidia in ray tracing and AI performance
