What reviewers say about the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M4, 2025)

All three whitelisted testers (Notebookcheck, Tom's Guide, Engadget) verified against fetched text; every quote is a literal substring and every measured value with units appears in-page. Consensus: the 13-inch MacBook Air M4 is a near-flawless ultraportable — fast fanless M4, strong battery, bright display, premium build with an excellent keyboard/trackpad, plus a lower $999 start price. Common gripes are the 60Hz-only screen, limited/left-side-only USB-C ports, no Wi-Fi 7, and the 256GB base SSD with pricey upgrades.

The base model of the new MacBook Air 13 benefits from an extremely fast M4 processor and, in addition to a thin case, still offers a brilliant IPS display, silent operation and long battery life—at least with the brightness reduced.
In our WLAN test at 150 cd/m², the current MacBook Air 13 M4 achieved a very good runtime of more than 16 hours, which is very competitive. At full brightness, however, the IPS panel's high power consumption made itself known, as we then only noted just over 7 hours, which meant it came in last place in our comparison group.

In our lab testing, the 13-inch MacBook Air M4's screen reached 470 nits of brightness when displaying HDR content.
The new MacBook Air endured for 14 hours and 51 minutes on the Tom's Guide Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of screen brightness.
While impressive, the MacBook Air M4 is starting to fall behind some of the Windows competition.

the M4-equipped MacBook Air is a nearly flawless ultraportable.
They're still limited to 60Hz — an annoyance since plenty of PC ultraportables are shipping with faster and smoother screens
