What reviewers say about the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation)
Three hands-on reviewers (TechRadar, Engadget, Tom's Guide) agree the Apple Watch SE (2nd gen) is the best-value Apple Watch: it packs the same S8 chip as the Series 8, is light and snappy in daily use, and cuts surprisingly few features for the lower price. All three flag the missing always-on display and the absent ECG, blood-oxygen and skin-temperature sensors. None ran a controlled lab bench, so all impressions are hands-on wear only; no measured lab values were reported by any source.

Where reviewers disagree Battery impressions split. TechRadar saw the SE 2 drop only to ~47-50% over a full 24 hours and called it near-two-day life, while Engadget found it struggled to last till midnight on active days. Tom's Guide landed in between at just over 24 hours while using low power mode a few hours each day.

The Apple Watch SE 2 delivers a complete Apple Watch experience for a great price, and with way longer battery life than Apple promises as a bonus.
During a full 24-hour period of wearing the Watch SE 2, I'm only seeing the battery drop to about 50%.
While I wish Apple could fit the always-on screen in here at the price – or would help to democratize home health monitoring by including the ECG and/or pulse oxygen sensor on this cheaper model
For $150 less than the new Series 8, this year's Watch SE delivers a comprehensive suite of health and fitness tools, emergency features and surprisingly few tradeoffs.
The Watch SE's Retina display is bright, crisp and easy to read, even in direct sunlight.
If I walk for longer than 10 minutes more than twice, the Watch SE will struggle to last till midnight.
But for the price, it's easy to call the Apple Watch SE the best Apple Watch value yet.
I used low power mode on the Apple Watch SE for a few hours each day, and found the smartwatch lasted just over 24 hours with my normal use.
The compromise might not be for everyone — oh, how I would've loved to rave about an Always-On Display in this Apple Watch SE (2022) review.
