What reviewers say about the Garmin Venu 3

Across four hands-on whitelisted reviews (Reviewed and DC Rainmaker lab-measured; TechRadar and Tom's Guide hands-on-only), the Venu 3 is praised as an excellent fitness/health tracker with a stunning AMOLED screen and multi-day battery. Consistent knocks: high price, weak third-party apps, no LTE, and durability/scratch concerns.

  • Long multi-day battery life, far beyond Apple/Samsung rivals · 4 sources
  • Accurate, detailed fitness and health tracking (HR within 1 BPM of chest strap) · 4 sources
  • Bright, colorful 1.4-inch AMOLED display readable in all conditions · 3 sources
  • Comprehensive sleep tracking with new Sleep Coach and nap detection · 3 sources

Commonly flagged

  • High price for a Garmin lacking premium training metrics · 3 sources
  • Limited third-party apps and no LTE · 2 sources
  • Durability concerns — Gorilla Glass 3 scratches easily, plasticky build
  • Frustrating Garmin phone-pairing/setup experience

Where reviewers disagree On durability the sources split rather than clash: Reviewed found the Gorilla Glass 3 scratched far more easily than sapphire rivals during rock climbing, while TechRadar called its Gorilla Glass 3 scratch-free through 'harsh testing' — a genuine cross-source conflict driven by different test intensity.

Battery drain over 10-hour test period: 4% (tracks toward >11 days runtime) · Real-world battery life (general use + few workouts/week): a full seven days · Battery life with always-on display: a little over four full days · Charge gained in half an hour: 47% · Heart-rate accuracy vs Polar Beat chest strap: within 1 BPM

In a basic 10-hour test period, I only saw the watch drain 4%, which tracks towards an overall runtime over 11 days.
The average pulse measurements were within 1 BPM of our benchmark measurements using a Polar Beat chest strap.
During testing, I found it far easier to scratch seriously than the sapphire screens found on some other watches, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

DC Rainmaker lab-tested ·

Real-world battery life (always-on display, ~90 min GPS/day): roughly 4 days · Charge time from ~10% to mid-90%: about an hour

I’m getting roughly 4 days of battery life, but with on average ~90 minutes of GPS workouts per day
the Venu 3 easily delivers on both accuracy and usability, with a solid feature-set of both new and existing items that’s very competitive
it lacks multiband found in some of Garmin’s other watches at the same price point. Typically multiband (aka dual-frequency GNSS) delivers better results

TechRadar hands-on ·

This watch boasts a gorgeous 1.4-inch AMOLED display with a high 454 x 454 pixel resolution. This super-bright and colorful screen makes all your metrics show up clearly and attractively, no matter the lighting conditions.
It also meant heart rate data was accurate when compared with a chest strap test.
This would be a five-star section, but phone connection and setup was a nightmare.

Tom's Guide hands-on ·

The Garmin Venu 3 is one of the top smartwatches for fitness-tracking we've ever tested thanks to intuitive lifestyle guidance and up to two weeks of battery life.
In my experience, the GPS loaded up in seconds and accurately tracked all my outdoor exercise
the third-party app selection is extremely limited compared to the watchOS and Wear OS wearable app stores

Android Police review: 45x45x12 mm case, AMOLED 454x454, 14-day smartwatch-mode battery (=336 hr), single-band GPS, no LTE/cellular, 5 ATM (50 m), Garmin OS (proprietary), weight 30 g, US launch $450. Expert Reviews (UK): 45 mm, OLED 454x454, battery 'up to 14 days' (real-world ~5 days with AOD+GPS), single-band GPS, 5 ATM. Released August 2023. battery_hr=336 = 14×24. ECG: the Venu 3 shipped with Elevate V5 hardware that was NOT ECG-enabled at launch (Aug 2023); Garmin later enabled the ECG app for US owners after FDA clearance via software update. ecg=true reflects this index's methodology ('present and enabled in at least one primary market' — the US), NOT a launch-day capability. (Prior 'constant ECG monitoring' provenance quote was incorrect — that phrasing describes optical HR, not the ECG app.)
