What reviewers say about the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)

Three whitelisted testers (Tom's Guide, SafeWise, TechRadar) hands-on-tested this exact battery model and rate it a top video doorbell: sharp daytime video (HDR-assisted), a package-friendly tall 3:4 view, and free person/package/vehicle detection without a subscription. Common gripes across the reviews include the narrow 145-degree field of view, the lack of a wireless chime (needing a Google speaker to hear it), weak 960p night vision, and Google-only ecosystem support.

front-door coverage cut off at base (hands-on): about 18 inches

Day and night video from the Nest Doorbell was detailed and colorful.
While its 145-degree field of view still cut off about 18 inches from the base of my door, it was on a par with the aforementioned Ring and Logitech video doorbells.
unlike Ring, Nest does not sell a separate wireless chime, so if you don't hardwire the doorbell to an existing chime, you'll need a Google Assistant-powered smart speaker like the Nest Mini if you want to hear when someone's at the door.

SafeWise lab-tested ·

battery charge remaining after 8 months (mostly standby): around 50%

It produced excellent daytime video quality in our tests, thanks to its HDR feature.
The 145º field of view is a downgrade compared to most competitors, which come in at 160º or higher.
Nighttime video quality doesn't look nearly as good due to the doorbell's tiny infrared LEDs and their meager light output

TechRadar lab-tested ·

The Google Nest Doorbell (battery) recorded clear footage both during the day and at night, despite the fact it's the lowest resolution doorbell we've tested to date.
One area where the Nest Doorbell (battery) falls short though, is the fact that you can't buy wireless plug-in chimes for it, which is something offered by rivals like Ring.
In our case, it took just under one and a half months before we had to recharge the Nest Doorbell (battery).
