  • Dropped Z-Wave, so power users lose offline local control

Where reviewers disagree The two split on auto-unlock reliability: Tom's Guide found features 'worked as advertised' and gave it Editor's Choice, while Engadget got auto-unlock to work only once across two Android phones — which Engadget frames as a known Android Bluetooth caveat rather than a flat product failure.

Engadget hands-on ·

The August WiFi Smart Lock is a cinch to install.
I was only able to get this feature to work once on one of the two Android phones I tested with.
The only thing it's missing is the true ease of being able to remotely unlock your door.

Tom's Guide hands-on ·

the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is 45 percent smaller than the Smart Lock Pro, so it's much less bulbous than before.
Installing the lock, connecting it to my Wi-Fi network and HomeKit should take you no more than 15 minutes; it's all pretty quick.
if you want a keypad — a feature found built into other smart locks — you'll have to purchase that separately for $59.99.
