What reviewers say about the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro
Across three hands-on testers (TechRadar, Engadget, Tom's Guide), the Action 5 Pro is rated a phenomenal, GoPro-beating action cam with class-leading battery life and strong 4K video, undercutting rivals by $50. All three flag its weak SuperNight low-light mode; two note the 4K resolution cap versus rivals.

Where reviewers disagree Battery numbers differ by test method: Tom's Guide's lab test got 112 min at 4K/60p and overheating at ~43 min indoors, while TechRadar field-recorded 'just under two hours' at 4K/60p with no overheat shutdown, likely reflecting indoor stress-test versus real-world conditions. On low light, Engadget found the bigger sensor clearly beats the GoPro Hero 13, whereas all three agree the SuperNight AI mode itself is weak.

battery runtime (4K/60p, indoors): 112 mins · overheating shutdown (4K/60p, indoors): ~43 mins · weight: 5.15 ounces · water resistance (case-free): 65ft (20m)
This is a phenomenal action camera, producing beautiful 4K video with pro recording features like gamma correction profiles and 10-bit color.
In our testing, the OA4 managed 80 minutes of footage, while the OA5 Pro managed 112 minutes at 4K/60p.
The "SuperNight" low light mode, which uses AI denoising to "yield cleaner and clearer footage", did the opposite in testing, delivering noisier and fuzzier results.
battery runtime (4K/60p): well over two hours · battery runtime (1080p): four hours · battery recharge time (optional charger): about 30 minutes
The Action 5 Pro now boasts the longest battery life of any action cam and it's not even close.
Thanks to the bigger sensor, the Action 5 Pro is superior to the GoPro Hero 13 in low light, with far less noise and artifacts.
However, to my eye the colors look less natural than on the GoPro Hero 13. Skin tones aren't as warm, and the colors are too intense for my taste.
battery runtime (4K/60p, RockSteady on): just under two hours · battery runtime (1080p/30fps, no stabilization): a shade under four hours · weight: 145g
Not only is its image quality superb (in daylight, at least – and even at night it's still better than a GoPro), but it has long-lasting battery life, effective image stabilization, a rugged lightweight build, two beautifully color-rich OLED screens, and genuinely brilliant compatibility with the DJI Mic 2 .
With the former, a full battery lasted just under two hours – not bad given the relatively high-performance settings. With the latter, it lasted a shade under four hours, just as billed, which is really strong.
I wasn't blown away by SuperNight, and when shooting at night in future I'd be tempted to dial the resolution back to 1080p as the 4K footage doesn't look particularly sharp.
